Conventional wisdom may say “yes”. Vinod Khosla, Co-Founder of Sun Microsystems and Founder of Khosla Ventures said, “don’t always follow conventional wisdom.” I tend to believe the latter.  I believe that we need to let our children explore newer ideas and be creative. There are successes in following a predictable path but there is much more to gain by trying the unknown. 

In the modern world, there is no denying how accessible mobile application development has become. We have great ideas and the tools to quickly bring those ideas to life. These tools enable professionals to flow across several disciplines; often, the designer is the engineer and vice-versa.

If you're thinking about context in your mobile application, you’re ahead of the curve. If you're thinking about location, past searches, and past interactions when developing a mobile application and providing content to the end-user, you're understanding the importance of context. We've only begun to scratch the surface of the power of context in applications; in particular mobile applications. Really think about how context will shape the output of everything from searching a restaurant review to interactions you have with your friends. Let's dig deep into what exactly is context, how you can begin to experiment with it, and what possible roles context can play in both your inbound and outbound mobile applications.

I am in New York this week attending the TechCrunch Disrupt and I had the opportunity to catch up with my old friend Mike Bayle. Mike recently accepted the job to head up all of ESPN's mobile strategy, and we had a good time reminiscing about our days working at startups in the first Internet boom of the late '90s. Specifically, we talked about how many startups launching nowadays were ideas that we also tried to pull off over a decade ago.

As a working UI/UX Application Designer in the mobile space, I continually find it amazing that mobile plays such a huge part in the daily lives of people around the globe. Developers and designers are creating apps in an every changing world that's constantly evolving and improving. With change comes innovation, drive and passion.

PwC, one of the "Big Four" accounting firms, recently won the "Technological Innovation in Relocation" award for their comprehensive business travel tracking solution, TravelWatch, built on Titanium! The TravelWatch mobile product streamlines travel-related activities such as tax and visa compliance and work authorization for PwC's Global 1000 clients.

Creating an app is addicting. Brainstorming the idea with friends is invigorating. Crafting a mood board, the UI,  the UX is fun.  Architecting it to work cross-platform is a welcome challenge.  Inventing solutions to tackle problems is satisfying.  All of this is exciting until the project reaches the 80% completion mark.  There’s an invisible wall once most projects reach 80% completion.  All the fun, creative, exciting efforts are completed.  What's left are the tedious, little details that will make or break the project.  If the Pareto Principle is any indication, the most important things are the 20%.  This article will focus on the 20% an app must get right prior to its release.

In the often referenced Minority Report, Tom Cruise flips though crime files comprised of complex data sets and videos in a fully gesture supported immersive computing experience.  This is duplicated in Marvel's Iron Man movies with Tony Stark flipping through 3-D models with mere gestures and voice control.
