Titanium Twitter Contest Announces Mobile App Winner: MyPrice

A little over a week ago we tweeted at Titanium mobile app developers to send links of theirmyprice_titanium Titanium apps to our @AppcShowcase account and be automatically entered to win $100 iTunes card in addition to some fresh AppC Swag.  Titanium developers blew us away with nearly 50 awesome apps that were incredibly diverse and creative.  After downloading the apps and testing each of them ourselves, we’ve declared the app contest winner to be MyPrice, an app that provides tools for freelancers to calculate exactly how much to charge for their independent professional services.  We found MyPrice’s innovative mobile-use case, implementation of cloud services and multi-form factor support, as well as the positive reviews it has garnered from its worldwide distribution all compelling reasons to announce it as our first Titanium App Contest Winner.

MyPrice: The Ultimate Freelance Tool

The MyPrice app, from developer Antonio Macías at MD Interaktiv, comes at a time when numbers for workers under the freelance category are at an all time high. This is especially true when considering the rise of jobs in the technology space, from UI/UX Designers to SEO Experts.  Sara Horowitz, founder of the Freelancers Union, shared on her site that 42 million people are working in America as independent professionals— that’s nearly one in three working Americans.  For workers used to set wages and traditional employer benefits, the transition into freelancing can be difficult and even dangerous.  MyPrice meets the needs of the independent worker with very straightforward tools to help figure out a reasonable hourly wage, set deadlines for projects, and receive useful tips on best practices for the everyday freelancer.

MyPrice users create their own profile, which takes into consideration work experience, education,
location, and everyday expenses. From here freelancers can calculate an hourly rate or the price of a specific project. A history section allows users to keep track of previous projects and add them to their portfolio. The app also features an expanding wealth of freelancing tips from “Spotting A Bad Client” to “Designing Your Home Office Equipment.”  A final feature allows independent workers a chance to find freelance opportunities right on the app.  The Jobs tab shows a listing of current available positions ported straight from authenticjobs.com, giving users a chance to put everything they’ve learned to use almost immediately.

The sleek UX separates MyPrice from just another business app, making the difficult task of pricing your hard work as easy as updating info on your Facebook profile.  The app is fully supported on both iPhone and iPad, and user information is accessible anywhere, on any iOS device since MyPrice stores its user information in the cloud. It also works in a number of different countries, including Australia, Canada, and the UK, with a Spanish version available for both Spain and Mexico, as well.  The developers from MyPrice rolled out version 2.1 just last week, now available for a free download on the App Store.

Honorable Mention

While MyPrice takes the cake this time, it’d be wrong for us not to show some love for some of the other excellent Titanium App Contest entries we received. Here’s a look at some of the coolest Titanium apps out there:

vns_titaniumVNS Timer: This Health app helps people affected by seizures that have an installed VNS device keep track of seizure duration and frequency, a critical step for successful treatment.

Grunder_titaniumGründer-App (Founder App): Similar to MyPrice, this app from German developers at GO AHEAD Ltd. gives budding entrepreneurs all the tools necessary to start their own business.

J23_titaniumJ23: This app is a must-have for sneaker lovers, offering an extensive catalog of all Jordan Brand shoe future release dates, as well a complete history of the Air Jordan shoe line from 1985 to present.  When considering the lengths people will go to for some new kicks, it’s no wonder that J23 boasts an average 5-star rating with over 600 reviews.

Thanks to everyone that sent us your amazing apps! We always love to hear more of the awesome things that Titanium developers do, so please send us your apps here: http://thinkmobile.appcelerator.com/we-want-learn-more-about-your-apps/
