Oddspotter App: Appreciating Art in a Classic Children's Game
Oddspotter, created on Appcelerator Titanium, is an innovative implementation of a classic children's game. Anyone who has picked up an activity book at some point in their lives knows the classic spot-the-difference game, in which two nearly-identical pictures are presented side-by-side. The pictures are exactly identical aside from a few minute differences that the reader must find and identify.
Oddspotter brings this game to the iPad with a new dynamic of
solving the puzzles in a certain time frame. Users receive a rating according to the speed in which they solve the puzzle; the higher the rating, the more new puzzles they unlock. The app currently has a total of 36 puzzles, featuring 12 works from Gauguin and 24 from Van Gogh. The puzzles can be quite difficult, so to keep you calm in your frantic search for differences, Oddspotter plays soothing classical music. These elements come together beautifully to create a game that’s fun for children and adults alike.
But Oddspotter is more than just your average spot-the difference game. It's a fine medium for observing the works of iconic artists and will have users clicking in whether they want to play the game or simply let the timer run and admire the art.
The developer of Oddspotter, Tanel Teemusk is working out of Estonia with a simple desire to create a fun and interesting take on a classic game while teaching players to appreciate fine art. Tanel created Oddspotter using only modules available within the Titanium framework and an in-device SQLite database. Check out gameplay footage of Oddspotter in the video below.
