Imagine that you’re a Korean who just moved to Australia for work. Missing the cuisine of your home country, you want nothing more than an authentic bowl of bibimbap, and you don’t know where to find it. Using Appcelerator’s ACS, mobile developers Jerry Chang, Ken You and the team from Native Signal created a location-based social app “Urimalo” as a nexus of local and culture-specific information, allowing Korean migrants around the world – and eventually, folks of any culture – to find their just-right combination of the local and the familiar while in a brand new place, all in their native tongue.

Apple's most recent announcements at WWDC about new features to be included in iOS 6 and Mac OS X Mountain Lion show their commitment to adding cloud-enabled services to their entire platform. By making features such as social integration with Facebook and photo sharing part of the operating system, and allowing accessibility through a consistent API, developers can now more easily provide a better end-user experience.

Consistency of the App Experience Across Devices

next gen platform

Traditional mobile applications are simple; typically focused on a single function (like find me a good food truck to grab lunch) or even multiple functions in order to accomplish a goal (find me a good food truck for lunch and invite a few of my close by friends). This action often occurs only when the app is open on the device. Once information has been delivered, that action is no longer required. The notable exception to this rule is content consumption applications like the Netflix app that maintains the last action preformed within the app, no matter the device.
